From Classroom…

I honestly couldn’t tell you when I started baking. I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember.

Baking has been part of my family for generations. My grandfather opened a bakery in the Netherlands in 1893, so perhaps spending time around flour, sugar and ovens was always going to find its way into my life.

For me, though, baking has always been a hobby. I’m not a professional baker or chef. I simply enjoy making things, experimenting with recipes, trying different techniques and seeing what happens.

At one particularly difficult point in my life, I began spending much more time in the kitchen. The kitchen became somewhere I could focus my attention, be creative and enjoy the simple satisfaction of making something from scratch. Baking became therapeutic.

Before long, friends and family began asking me to make things for them — birthday cakes, cupcakes and other treats. In 2020, I took on my biggest and most important cake yet: my daughter’s wedding cake.

When I moved to Ukraine in 2021 to teach English, I baked less frequently, but the kitchen never disappeared from my life. Instead, I was introduced to different foods, recipes and techniques and had another culinary culture to learn from and experiment with.

Teaching became my main focus, and 18+ teaching hours each week left little time for my baking hobby — but it was never too far away.

Then, in late 2025, something unexpected happened.

During a Christmas recipe contest with my students, two of them — Daniil and Anna-Mariya — casually brought my two worlds together.

Daniil asked whether I taught baking.

Anna-Mariya took the idea further and encouraged me to bring my baking online through a YouTube channel.

It was a simple classroom conversation, but I took their words seriously. What had always been a personal hobby suddenly had somewhere new to go.

The From Classroom 2 Kitchen YouTube Channel was born in December 2025.

In 2026, I registered the domain and began turning that little classroom idea into something more: a YouTube channel and website where I could collect recipes, share what I’ve learned, experiment with new ideas and, hopefully, encourage other people to have some fun in their own kitchens.

What’s Cooking?

From Classroom 2 Kitchen isn’t about pretending everything that comes out of my kitchen is perfect.

You’ll find recipes I already know and love, things I’m trying for the first time, kitchen experiments, techniques I’ve picked up along the way, and the occasional idea that sounded much better before I actually tried it.

Some recipes will be simple. Others may be a little ambitious. Some experiments will work beautifully.

And if one goes completely sideways?

Well… we’ll probably learn something from that too.
